Living Together Before Marriage.

Statistics <Booth and Johnson (1988). Premarital cohabitation and marital success. Journal of Family Issues, 9, 255-272.> consistently indicate that premarital cohabitation as a testing ground for marital incompatibility is a false assumption.  additionally, when marriage does follow premarital cohabitation it is less likely to succeed (almost 80%) and often take place as much out of feeling of obligation as love. From a clinical standpoint it could be seen as somewhat of a  neurotic choice because 1, it is an avoidance maneuver;  2.  there is an assumption of getting something for nothing and without risk; and 3. an illusion of having ones cake and eating it too, e.g. having the benefits and pleasures of marriage while remaining free of legal commitment.   What are your comments regarding this  choice?

Lets hear it for Change

Check out the flow and move with it.  Life is change and change brings about adjustment.  Life will be less stressful and more productive with a positive attitude towards change and development of sharper skills for adjustment.  Since life itself is change it cannot go on without it.  To embrace life to embrace change.  Ones greatest pride should take place in ones ability and willingness to take on the challenges, and make healthy adjustments to change.
